While it’s possible that someone might talk about suicide as a way to seek the support they need, it’s vitally important to take anybody who talks about feeling suicidal seriously.Some may have actually said they want to die. People who take their life by suicide have often told someone that they do not feel life is worth living or that they have no future.People who talk about suicide aren’t serious and won’t go through with it. Once someone starts talking they’ve got a better chance of discovering other options to suicide.People who have felt suicidal will often say what a huge relief it is to be able to talk about what they are experiencing.Talking about suicide not only reduces the stigma, but also allows someone to tell you how they feel.Talking about suicide does not make it more likely to happen.Talking about suicide will give someone the idea to do it. What are some of the common myths about suicide? Myth Thoughts can range from a detailed plan to a fleeting consideration. Suicidal thoughts or suicidal ideation means thinking about or planning suicide. Suicide is when someone intentionally ends their own life. You will never know what someone is truly going through because it is so easy to hide your true feelings inside your mind, so it’s always important to be kind and caring and to go out of your way to make someone feel that extra bit special. It’s important to open up and let people know how you truly feel. So, I hope anybody reading this knows that if they have any dark thoughts, help is there, and people care. I will always feel he chose the wrong thing to do by ending his own life, and if he had opened up to us all deeply and let us help him, I believe he would still be here today. Nothing I can do will ever bring my big brother back, and he will never know how much he was truly loved and the devastation it has left behind for our family and loved ones as we try to rebuild our lives without him. Help is out there - I want everyone who is having dark thoughts to know this Kirk then went on to have a major hip operation which left him bed-bound for a good three months, and he never fully recovered. Kirk took this badly and found it very hard, especially after having been a paratrooper for near enough his whole life. This injury stopped my brother from doing the things he loved, such as running, boxing and weightlifting. ![]() Kirk got medically discharged in his twelfth year of service after suffering a severe hip injury. He saw and experienced things that a normal civilian doesn't, which later on in life had a huge effect on him. Kirk served for his country in the Parachute Regiment (3 PARA), undertaking tours of Northern Ireland and Afghanistan. Kirk was my best friend, my big brother and my hero. My big brother, Kirk, gave up his battle with mental health problems and tragically took his own life. On 21 November 2017, I received a phone call from my sister with news that would change my and my family’s lives forever. Taylor shares the message that it is okay to reach out when you are not feeling okay. He tells us about what Kirk went through and how since then, he has chosen to focus his energy on raising awareness around mental health and looking after his mental well-being.
